The latest team franchise to be announced as part of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s indoor primetime golf league will be partially owned by four-time NBA champion Steph Curry. Curry, an avid golfer, will lead the San Francisco-based team alongside Marc Lasry of Avenue Capital Group, with NBA stars Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala as additional investors in the newest addition to the TGL product.

The venture was announced on Thursday by TMRW Sports, the company behind the simulator league that boasts 24 PGA Tour players as its inaugural members. The group includes seven of the top 10 players in the world.

“Combining the business expertise of Avenue Capital Group with the championship mentality brought by these NBA superstars, this TGL team will generate a lot of energy in the Bay Area and around the world,” said Mike McCarley, TMRW’s CEO.

TGL San Francisco joins Atlanta Drive GC, TGL Boston, Los Angeles Golf Club and TGL New York as the team franchises to be announced thus far. With six teams of four players each, there appears to be one group that has yet to be made public.

Aside from the golfers, Curry, Thompson and Iguodala are not the only current or former professional athletes to be involved in the startup league. Serena and Venus Williams are partial owners of the Los Angeles Golf Club, and Shaquille O’Neal, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Durant are a few more big-name investors in TMRW Sports.

Lasry’s involvement in TGL marks one of the first investments made by his new Avenue Sports Fund.

“Our ownership group is excited to become stewards of TGL San Francisco and represent Northern California, which is the center of tech innovation and is a perfect location for a TGL team in this extraordinary new sports league,” Lasry said.

With the 2024 roster officially set, the simulator league is slated to debut on ESPN on Jan. 9. Patrick Cantlay, Kevin Kisner, Min Woo Lee, Lucas Glover and Wyndham Clark were announced as the final five players to sign on this week.

Curry is deeply involved in golf, both professional and beyond. On Wednesday the NBA star was announced as the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Award for promoting diversity within the game. Curry has provided six years of funding for the Howard University golf program and kickstarted Underrated Golf, a business venture that gives underserved youth access to the sport.
