5 Angels Players Drawing Serious Trade Interest, Per The Athletic Insider
The Los Angeles Angels are determined to make a run at breaking their long playoff drought next season. After another poor season, they brought in new manager Ron Washington to the team, and they believe he is the right man to help them reach their goal.
All offseason, the Halos have been looking around the league at different moves to bring in more talent. They have a few good, young players on the roster already, but they likely aren't built as a contender right now.
The team does have some players on the roster that other teams have been asking about this offseason. MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic has reported five names of players that are drawing interest in the league.
Infielder Luis Rengifo, outfielder Taylor Ward, outfielder Mickey Moniak, catcher Matt Thaiss and left-hand pitcher Jose Suarez are drawing trade interest.
Rengifo is an interesting name for teams since he's under team control for another two years. Last season, he hit .264 with 16 home runs and 51 runs batted in. He may be one of their best trade chips for the rest of the offseason.
Both Ward and Moniak could be pieces that the Halos add with others to land some starting pitching help. Moniak had his best season as a professional last year and could provide a team with a left-handed power hitter.
He hit .280 with 14 home runs and 45 runs batted in 85 games a season ago. The former No. 1 overall pick showed that he can be a productive player in the big leagues.
Thaiss may end up staying with the team after they traded away catcher Max Stassi earlier in the offseason. The Halos have him and starter Logan O'Hoppe on the roster right now.
The Angels have plenty of options that they will look into this offseason, and the front office has a lot of work to do. This winter is a crucial one for this franchise and one that could change the scope of the team going forward.
