Angels' Closer Provides Interesting Choice of Words After LA Avoids Sweep by Houston
One thing that cannot be denied about this 2023 Los Angeles squad is that no matter how bad things have gotten in this early first quarter of the season, the vibes within the clubhouse have always remained positive. I believe that the Taylor Ward situation is a prime example of this as Mickey Moniak, who just joined the roster, has been give many of Ward's starts amidst his slump and he has taken it humbly.
Then you have a number of losses this year which have been due to poor late-game execution on the pitching mound, defensive errors, and even mistakes right at home plate by the catcher. Nonetheless, fingers have never been pointed in anybody's particular direction and Phil Nevin has made sure of this.
All eyes are usually on the first-year manager following each outing, whether it's a win or a loss, and he never throws any of his guys under the bus. He always believes that that their performances are better than their stat line shows.
This past weekend was definitely pretty tough for Angels fans to digest. They had the opportunity to take down a top-heavy division rival in the Houston Astros and show the league that they are a serious squad in the AL West as well. However, things clearly went South as they only won one game in the entire series.
But closing pitcher Carlos Estevez claims that the clubhouse does not dwell on anything that happens in the past and believes that they are only as good as their last game.
“We’re going to show ’em we’re good enough,” Estévez said. “Come on. Let’s clean it up. Whatever happened in the past happened. Let’s turn the page and keep going.”

Estevez certainly kept things positive and wanted to come out of the weekend with at least one win but hopefully this mindset is instilled into LA since game one next time.
