Angels GM Perry Minasian Confirms Team Wants to Keep Adding in Free Agency
The Los Angeles Angels find themselves in a strange place. They aren't the worst team in the league, but they also don't appear to be real contenders.
They are stuck in the dreaded middle ground, which is the worst place a team can be. The front office has been looking to bring talent into the club all offseason, and they are expected to be aggressive in doing so.
Angels general manager Perry Minasian confirmed that the team wants to continue to add in free agency. He also mentioned that they believe adding in manager Ron Washington has made free agents want to come play for the Halos.
This team has been linked with multiple top-tier names this offseason, but so far, nothing has come to fruition. They want to add all across the board of their roster, and they are being proactive in doing so.
The Angels are determined to be competitive next season, but the state of the franchise may say otherwise. Even if they believe Washington helps their case with free agents, potential prospects for the team may not view them highly.
They haven't reached the playoffs since 2014, and they just lost their best player in free agency. While Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon are still there, neither one of them has proven that they can stay healthy throughout the season.
The Angels may need to overpay for players to come play for them right now, which could hurt them down the line. It hasn't stopped them from checking in on players, and it's been reported that free agent starting pitcher Blake Snell is their "priority."
Addressing the starting rotation has been one of the biggest routes this offseason for the Angels. They did add in pitcher Zach Plesac, who can provide depth across the pitching staff. It remains to be seen if the Angels will land anyone big, but they are, at least, trying.
The best course of action for the Halos would be to start heading into a rebuilding situation. However, owner Arte Moreno will never do that, even if it's what is best for the future of the franchise.
