Angels Have Made Free Agent Blake Snell Their 'Priority' This Offseason
The Los Angeles Angels have a lot of work to do this offseason if they want to keep themselves competitive next year. The front office has planned to be aggressive in adding talent this winter, and it seems that are focusing in on one big target.
The Halos need help in their starting rotation, and the big name on the market now that Yoshinobu Yamamoto has signed is former San Diego Padres ace Blake Snell. Snell has been linked to the Angels previously this offseason, but he has also been thought to be a target of the San Francisco Giants.
Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Angels have made Snell their priority this offseason.
"According to one industry source, the Angels have made Snell, the reigning NL Cy Young winner, their priority after losing AL MVP Shohei Ohtani to the Dodgers in free agency."
Per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle
If the Angels can land Snell, it would be a massive upgrade to their rotation. He won the National League Cy Young award this past season with San Diego.
He posted an ERA of 2.25 and a WHIP of 1.19 last season with the Padres. Snell would bring an edge to this Angels rotation and could serve as their front-line ace for the next few years.
Losing Shohei Ohtani was a hit to this Angels franchise, and adding Snell would at least help ease the pain a little bit. He won't come cheap, but the Angels have shown a willingness to spend big money on free agents.
If they are truly serious about contending moving forward, Snell is the move for them. The Angels ownership owes it to their fans to bring in a new star player, and Snell would be just that.
