Angels Have Chance To Sign Former Most Valuable Player According To Insider
The Los Angeles Angels may have lost Shohei Ohtani, but another star could be on his way to town.
Los Angeles still has plenty of money at its disposal after missing out on Ohtani and luckily for the club, there are some very intriguing free agents still available.
Although Spring Training is upon us, there still are plenty of players available who could help the Angels. One player who has been floated as an option for the Angels is 2019 National League Most Valuable Player Cody Bellinger, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
"Bellinger is the best-available position player on the free-agent market and because he is relatively young he's been quite demanding in terms of years and dollars," Bowden said. "His ability to play first base and all three outfield positions increases his value as well. The (Chicago Cubs), (Toronto Blue Jays), and Angels seem to be the most likely destinations for Bellinger, who won the (National League) Comeback Player of the Year Award last season and finished 10th in the league MVP voting."
Bowden attempted to predict the landing spots for the top remaining free agents and mentioned Los Angeles as an option for Bellinger and a move certainly would make sense.
Bellinger spent the first six seasons of his career in Los Angeles with the Dodgers before joining the Cubs ahead of the 2023 campaign. The 28-year-old dealt with injuries near the end of his stint with the Dodgers and it impacted his play.
He was healthy in 2023 with Chicago and was a star once again. He finished the season with 26 home runs, 97 RBIs, and a .307/.356/.525 slash line in 130 games played.
Bellinger is looking for a massive contract, but a signing could go a long way in improving the Angels.
