Angels' Hint at New Throwback Uniforms Dripping With '70s Nostalgia
You can’t pull one over on Paul Lukas.
The author/publisher of Uni Watch got his hands on a page of the 2024 MLB uniform style guide and found this throwback set in the Angels' section:
It looks like the uniform set the team adopted in 1973, when it first capitalized the “A” in Angels across the front of the uniform. The team has worn similar throwback designs several times over the past 20 years.
The organization hasn't officially confirmed this uniform set but it has designated July 25 through Aug. 1 as "Throwback Week" on its promotional schedule.
Lukas discovered an on-field throwback cap listed in the team's online store earlier this month, which led him to the style guide. He notes this version could be a pullover instead of a button-up, like in years past.
Uniforms in the 2024 style guide are listed only if they are part of a team's uniform rotation for the season. One-off uniforms, or those worn for a special weekend, aren't listed.
The biggest difference in this uniform set is the pants.
Indeed, if the Style Guide is to be believed, they’re pairing the pullover jersey with belted pants (including Nike’s new angled belt tunnels), instead of the period-appropriate sansabelt pants. Disappointing, but whaddaya gonna do.

Other details that jump out are the numbers and sleeve trim.
The numbers are in McAullife number font which resembles the Angels' uniforms from 1973-78. The sleeve trim from that time was slightly off the cuff with some white peeking out at the end of the sleeve. Looking at this version, the trim is right at the cuff without any white.
It's a throwback in the truest sense of the word, enough to conjure Mickey Rivers stealing a base or Nolan Ryan throwing a 100-mph fastball.
