Angels' Infielder Fires Back at Fans Slandering Him For Lack of Home Runs
The Los Angeles Angels failed to take the three-game series against their division rival Houston Astros earlier this week. Halos only grabbed one out of three and fell short in the series finale on Wednesday.
Wednesday marked 10 years to the date Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon made his major league debut, and it's been an eventful one. He's a one-time All-Star, a two-time slugger, and a World Series champion in 2019. However, his time as a Halo has been a rough one, filled with injury.
However, health-wise, things have been going Rendon's way in 2023, and we're hoping that can stay true. His bat also came alive this past week when he got his first homer of the season in his 25th game of the season. Fans have been giving him hell for his lack of homers, and he finally shot back at them, telling OC Register's Jeff Flecther his game isn't about hitting dingers.
“If we’re contributing, homers aren’t the only category,” said Rendon, who hit his only home run of the season on Sunday. “I’ve never been a home run hitter. I’m not Tony Four Bags.”
Rendon's nickname is Tony Two Bags due to his ability to hit doubles. Anthony has 282 doubles in his career, with his career highs coming in 2018 and 2019 with 44.
The 32-year-old's career-high in home runs is 34, which came in his World Series champion year. However, he has yet to come close to that, failing to reach over 10 HRs but has been riddled with injuries.
Home runs are not Rendon's forte, so Angel fans need to deal with it. Be grateful that he's healthy and producing for the team.
