The Los Angeles Angels miss out on yet another free agent, this time with third baseman Matt Chapman agreeing to sign with the San Francisco Giants. He agreed to a three-year, $54 million contract with the Giants.

Chapman had previously been rumored as a potential piece for the Angels, but they will need to look elsewhere now. He would have given them another right-handed bat in the lineup, and someone who could play solid defense at third.

The veteran infielder played in 140 games for the Toronto Blue Jays last season, hitting .240 with 17 home runs and 54 runs batted in. He has shown incredible durability throughout his career, playing in at least 140 games in five of his last six seasons.

There was some thought that a Chapman signing with the Angels could help current third baseman Anthony Rendon cut down on his reps on defense, limiting the chance of more injuries. However, the price tag seemingly was too high for the front office.

The Halos front office has been looking to bring in more talent all offseason, but nothing has really come to fruition yet. This is another example of them missing out on bringing in more production, but there is still time between now and the start of the season.
