The Los Angeles Angels have been one of the more active teams across baseball in terms of free agency, even if they haven't made too many signings. The front office has placed itself in the conversation with many top-tier guys, and they aren't done yet.

They've been looking to upgrade the talent level on the team, and the Halos may have some tricks up their sleeve.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer listed potential surprise teams for free agent third baseman Matt Chapman, and the Angels made the cut. They were listed as the top surprise landing spot for the former All-Star infielder.

"Matt Chapman Surprise No. 1: Los Angeles Angels

The Angels dropping big money on a third baseman? Didn't they just do that?Well, maybe not "just," but last season was only the fourth year of Anthony Rendon's seven-year, $245 million contract. That contract (and Rendon himself, mind you) are still around, so now isn't exactly an ideal time to sign another third baseman."

Per Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report

While the team does have Anthony Rendon on the roster, he hasn't been readily available since signing with them in 2020. Moving Rendon off third base and into mainly the designated hitter spot could help alleviate injuries.

Chapman is a very solid defender and could replace any issues at the corner spot. He also has had moments with his bat, even if his numbers dipped a little last season.

In 140 games with the Toronto Blue Jays this past season, Chapman hit .240 with 17 home runs and 54 runs batted in. He has played in at least 140 games in five of the last six seasons, showing his durability on the field.

Chapman could be a solid option for the Halos to spend their money on. He would bring another strong bat to their lineup and fit their want to improve the roster.
