In the midst of yet another disappointing Angels season, and arguably one of the saddest in recent memory with the expected departure of Shohei Ohtani, there are certainly things to look forward to.

Those include the Halos' farm system, which featured two players named "Prospects of the Year" by MLB.com. Let's dive into them.

MLB.com chose one hitting and pitching prospect, with the hitting prospect being the 26-year old 1B/OF Trey Cabbage, who is ranked 26th in the Angels' farm system.

Cabbage joined LAA as a Minor League free agent, but after dealing with a broken arm in 2022, he returned this season and was terrific.

The promising asset hit 30 home runs and finished with an .306/.379.596 line, leading the Halos' farm system in home runs, slugging, and OPS, capping off his terrific numbers with a 128 wRC+ in AAA.

MLB.com's pitching prospect selected was Jorge Marchecho, a 21-year-old right-hander.

Marchecho pitched his way to High-A in his first campaign in full-season ball, leading the organization in ERA (3.55), BAA (.218), WHIP (1.03), and K/BB (4.77).

Arguably his most impressive metric was his 1.92 BB/9 rate, which lead to a 20.2 K-BB%. Having the level of control that he does at his age is impressive, indicating his composure and future potential within the Halos' organization.

There's always something positive to keep an eye on in spite of what's difficult, and for the Angels, it's these two.
