Angels News: Anthony Rendon Nearing End of Lengthy Suspension
I'm not sure if there was a worse scandal that could've hit the Angels at the start of their 2023 season than the one Anthony Rendon got them into.
One bad reaction to a fan getting too comfortable with their words led to the starting infielder grabbing him by his collar, threatening him verbally, and attempting to hit him upside the head.
All of this was caught on video, just like everything in this social media era, and it sparked an investigation among the MLB and Oakland Police Department.
Rightfully so, there was a ton of drama surrounding the franchise for a couple of days. Everybody wanted to put their two cents in and reveal the punishment they believed he should get for this.
Ultimately, the MLB decided on a five-game suspension for Rendon which went down to four games after he appealed the punishment. This story dominated headlines for a while and and mostly due to its controversy.
But what feels like in a snap of a finger, Rendon's suspension is over and he should be available to play in Saturday's match against the Blue Jays as he is currently listed probable.
Hunter Renfroe has been struggling these past few games to find success at the plate batting behind Shohei Ohtani so Rendon should definitely slide back in that spot. His defense, of course, will also be welcomed back with open arms.
