After the tough season that the Angels have put together, there has been talk of some major changes coming their way this winter. It remains to be seen if manager Phil Nevin will remain with the club, but it seems that he does have the support of his players.

Multiple members of the Angels have come out in support of Nevin, signaling that maybe there is a slight chance for him to return. Even star Mike Trout gave his thoughts, and that alone could possibly save Nevin.

“I love Phil, I love playing for Phil. He takes care of his guys. You know he wants the best for the team. And that was another thing about not being out there, because I know how much he cares about us.”

Assuming Trout remains with the Angels this offseason, his word will have a massive weight on what happens. He is their long-time star player, so what he says does hold some weight. Especially if Shohei Ohtani decides to leave the Halos this offseason.

Starting pitcher Reid Detmers said that he enjoys playing for Nevin because he is straight up with the guys. They appreciate the openness that he has with them, and it makes for a good environment.

“He’s very personable. You can talk to him about anything. He’s straight up with you, which I love. He’ll tell you how it is and that’s what I think what players need. He’ll tell you if you’re doing bad and he’ll tell you if you’re doing good. And that’s more of a trust thing. So yeah, he was awesome. Couldn’t ask for a better manager.”

Even pitcher Griffin Canning opened up about Nevin being a player's coach, something all players love to have in their manager.

"Phil is great, I love him. He’s a players’ coach, for sure. He stands up for his guys and does the right thing. So it’s fun to play for him.”

Nevin may not have had success on the field, but he clearly won over the guys in the clubhouse. It may not allow him to keep the job, but it can’t hurt his chances going forward.
