Angels News: Halos Demote Former All-Star, Bringing Up Two Veterans
The Los Angeles Angels had a significant trade yesterday when they traded for veteran infielder Eduardo Escobar. They needed some infield reinforcement, and they got what they needed. However, we learned earlier today that they're not done making moves, which will come at the expense of a former All-Star.
Angels insider Sam Blum was among the first to report that the Angels are calling up veteran infielder David Fletcher and will option former All-star infielder Jared Walsh to Triple-A.
Since returning to the lineup after dealing with severe neurological issues, Walsh hasn't seemed to find his footing, which caused his demotion. Jared was slashing .119/.244/.224 with a .467 OPS, along with one home run and five RBIs in 28 games and 67 ABs. It's tough to see since we all wanted Walsh to return to where he was, but he hasn't, and hopefully, he finds something in Salt Lake.
As for Fletcher, he was surprisingly demoted in April for the Halos 2022 first-round pick Zach Neto. Fletcher was off to a bad start to 2023, slashing .125/.125/.125 with a .250 OPS, zero homers, and 1 RBI in eight games and 16 ABs. The Halos had seen enough and sent him to the minors. That could've been the best thing for David, as he was killing it with a .909 OPS and a .383 average with 24 RBIs and one homer in 43 games and 180 ABs. Hopefully, that type of play carries to the majors because the Halos could use all the offense they could get.
Angels insider for the LA Time Sarah Valenzuela was among the first to announce Fletcher making his way to Denver for the Halos three-game series.
We can't wait to see Fletcher and Escobar in action for the Halos, and we wish Walsh the best in the minors.
