Angels News: LA's Hyper Trade Activity Proves Winning is Top Priority in 2023
Vibes are super high in Anaheim right now and I'll keep saying it, their 25-run game could not have come at a better time. The Los Angeles Angels and their entire community were pretty sad when they heard that Gio Urshela would be out for the entire season with a pelvic fracture and that Zach Neto and Anthony Rendon would be hitting the IL as well.
However, GM Perry Minasian knows how important this season is and even though he hates to see a number of key guys going down with injury, he trusts in the medical staff to do their job and he pivoted to continue his. First off, he began conversations with the New York Mets and was able to agree on a deal for former All-Star Eduardo Escobar in exchange for two of his top pitching prospects in Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux.
Next up, he then targeted another former All-Star slugger in Mike Moustakas and parted ways with another minor-leage pitcher in exchange (Connor Van Scoyoc). LA actually acquired Moustakas from the Rockies not too long after their historic Sunday victory over them.
Everybody should be paying close attention to the details of both of these moves because Minasian didn't make just trades, he was okay with sending away some of their top pitching prospects in order to ensure that they brought in guys that could at least cover majority of the production that their injured players would bring.
Escobar already got two hits and an RBI in his Saturday debut with the squad and prior to joining them, he was slashing 236/.286/.409 to go with four homers in 2023. then taking a look at Moustakas, he has suited up in 47 games with the Rockies this year and has slashed .270/.360/.435.
All-Star break is coming up very soon and then it will be the trade deadline... maybe the Halos aren't done making moves just yet!
