Even after jogging lightly on the field for pregame warmups earlier this month, the most recent update to the Anthony Rendon saga hasn't exactly been encouraging.

Out since July due to a bone bruise in his leg, the latest news concerning the third baseman's condition isn't encouraging in the slightest.

Third baseman Anthony Rendon (bone bruise) has been undergoing treatment in Anaheim while the Angels have been in Seattle. There is still no timetable for him to return.

Injured for the past two months after dealing with another injury early in the year, the Angels' biggest contract has been unable to finish another year healthy for the third full season in a row.

It's been a nightmare scenario in a lesson that Arte Moreno simply hasn't learned in his time as the owner of the franchise after inking Rendon to a seven-year contract.

With a price tag of nearly $40 million on average annual value for multiple seasons past this year, Rendon's contract is, simply put, the worst in baseball and an absolute albatross along with Mike Trout's hefty price tag.

To Trout's credit, he's tried to play through his injuries and horrible luck has been dealt to him, but Rendon's unprofessional attitude with the media has been well documented this season.

Likely unable to trade him due to his health, contract and clearly poor attitude, the inability to finish this season is just a microcosm for the entire Angels lineup this year.

Injured up and down both the pitching and hitting ranks, 2023 could be the last time we see Trout and Ohtani in Anaheim as home players.

With trade talks surrounding Trout and impending free agency set for Ohtani, Rendon may be the last piece standing in what's been a disastrous few seasons at the Big A.
