Los Angeles Angels left fielder Taylor Ward had to leave Saturday afternoon's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays after he was hit in the face by a pitch, a devastating injury for the young Halos outfielder.

Alek Manoah, the Blue Jays right-handed pitcher that accidentally hit Ward with a fastball in the fifth inning of Saturday's contest, spoke about the injury postgame, where he expressed remorse for what happened and wished Ward the best.

Angels first baseman Mike Moustakas also talked about Ward at the end of the weekend game, and he expressed just how frightening an injury like that can be.

There's now an update on Moustakas' teammate's status, as Ward was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with facial fractures, according to the Angels.

Ward had been having a great season for the Halos, as the left fielder was hitting .253/.335/.421 with 14 home runs and 47 RBI in just his second year as an everyday player.

It's truly a devastating injury for Ward at any time, but especially at this stage of his career when he was establishing himself as a contributor in the Angels lineup.

Hopefully Ward is able to recover well and return to the team at some point -- and, as of now, indications are that he will -- but it was terrible to see the events of Saturday.

The injury was a big blow both on the field and in the clubhouse for an Angels team that is having one of their best seasons in years, as they're just four games out in the race for a wild card spot.

We'll see what happens with the Halos over the rest of this season, and here's hoping that Ward will be able to return to the lineup after a full recovery.
