Angels News: Mike Trout Still Working Towards Return This Season
Despite where the Los Angeles Angels are in the standings, star outfielder Mike Trout is continuing to work his way back to game action this season. Trout has been out for the majority of the last few months as he recovers from a hand injury.
He returned for one game but was quickly sent back to the injured list. Now he is taking swings during his recovery process, in the hope of returning before the season ends.
“Mike Trout (fractured hamate) has been taking dry swings, but the three-time AL MVP was not with the team in Seattle.”
Per Jeff Fletcher of The OC Register
In all honesty, it doesn’t make a ton of sense for Trout to return this season, but he is a competitor. He wants to be there with his teammates, even if there is nothing to play for.
Trout may also feel like if he can even get a few games in to end the year, it could help him build on things entering the offseason. The outfielder has had a down season, so he will be looking to figure out a way to remain healthy next year.
For the year, he is hitting .263 with 18 home runs and 44 runs batted in. The Halos have missed his big bat in the lineup, and they have really struggled with him out.
This offseason could bring real change for both the Angels and Trout. There has been talk about the team possibly moving him this winter if he were to ask for a trade.
The organization hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2014, and that streak will continue this season. Trout wants to win on the field, so his future with the Angels could be in doubt.
