Angels News: Nolan Schanuel Makes Franchise History Amid Torrid Start to Career
The Angels shocked the MLB world when they called up 2023 first-round Nolan Schanuel less than two months after drafting him.
While the decision felt like a rushed one considering the 21-year-old was playing in college earlier this year, Schanuel has made it clear early on that he's ready for the big stage.
On Wednesday, Schanuel had a chance to make Angels franchise history, and he did just that.
With his single in the top of the ninth inning, Schanuel extended his hit streak to 10, which is also the amount of games he's played in during his short career.
Schanuel hitting safely in each of his 10 first MLB games is an Angels franchise record, passing David Eckstein who hit safely in each of his first nine career games in 2001.
This is an incredible accomplishment for Schanuel, and the fact that he played college ball just a few months ago makes this that much more impressive.
In baseball, the norm has always been for players to work their way up the minor leagues after getting drafted, and wait years before getting to the big leagues.
However, over the last few seasons, the Angels have proven to be extremely aggressive with their call-ups, and the most aggressive one came this year with Schanuel.
Schanuel has led off for the Halos, and has shown that he has all the makings of a dominant leadoff hitter for years to come.
On the year, Schanuel is now hitting .324 with an OPS of .808, impressive marks for anyone, but especially a 21-year-old rookie.
The Angels wanted to see what they had in Schanuel, and clearly, they have something special.
Congrats to Schanuel on this incredible accomplishment. Let's see how high this hit streak can get.
