In this story:

The MLB trade deadline is just around the corner, and the Angels have some decisions to make. With the impending free agency of two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani coming up, the team could look to move him to gain future assets.

It has taken over the entire narrative surrounding the franchise of late and could be a bit distracting to the other players. However, at least so far, the Angels haven't let it get to them, and they are playing good baseball right now.

Manager Phil Nevin said that he doesn't interfere with the decisions that come from the front office, and that is a good thing. Managers can give their thoughts on different matters, but at the end of the day, it's up to the front office to make personnel decisions.

The front office does have some major things to figure out, like if they want to be buyers or sellers at the deadline. The Angels have the talent to compete and will be getting star outfielder Mike Trout back next month. This fact could see them take a more even-leveled approach by just adding around the edges.

The Angels have gone on a bit of a hot streak lately, winning four straight and five of six overall games. If they keep this up then the club will have no choice but to be buyers and go for a playoff push. But if they drop a few games before the deadline, it will be selling once again for this franchise.

Ohtani isn't the only player that could be dealt before the deadline, but he is the biggest storyline. Nevin knows this and is doing everything in his power to keep trying to win games.

Everything will be clear in the coming days with August 1 coming up quickly. Whatever the Angels do, Ohtani will be at the center of it. And the moves they make could have major ramifications on the entire league going forward.
