Angels News: Rookie RHP Called Up to Take Tyler Anderson's Start on Friday, Top Reliever Out for Year
The Los Angeles Angels season is finally winding down, but injuries are continuing to make things difficult
On Friday, the team will be recalling rookie RHP Davis Daniel to start the series opener against the Minnesota Twins, pushing back Tyler Anderson's start to Sunday due to knee discomfort.
But that's not all. The team is also placing Aaron Loup on the injured list with a left shoulder strain, ending his season. That's move is clearing the spot for Daniel on the active roster.
Daniel made his MLB debut earlier this month, throwing three impressive shutout innings. He then got "rewarded" for that performance by being sent right back down. Hopefully this time around he's able to stay on the active roster for the last week and a half of the season.
As for Loup, he struggled mightily this season, sporting a 6.10 ERA in 55 appearances. This will officially put an end to his Angels tenure, which saw him pitch to the tune of a 4.86 ERA across 120 appearances. Not exactly ideal, especially considering he signed a two-year, $17 million deal ahead of the 2022 season.
Anderson is expected to go on Sunday, which will likely be his second-to-last start of a disappointing first year in Anaheim. After signing a three-year, $39 million deal this offseason, Anderson has regressed mightily, sporting a 5.43 ERA in 141 innings.
