Angels News: Shohei Ohtani Receives Major Award After Another Dominant Month
Shohei Ohtani just won another major award.
On Wednesday, Ohtani received the American League Player of the Month Award for his dominant July that saw him hit .282 with nine home runs, 14 runs batted in and an OPS of 1.152. He won in the American League, while Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger won in the National League.
Ohtani concluded July by winning the Player of the Week Award, so it's only fitting that he heads into August with the monthly award, too.
Ohtani was spectacular for a surging Angels team, and was a big reason they decided to go all-in and buy at the trade deadline.
He continued doing it all on both sides of the ball, and even put in one of the greatest days ever towards the end of the month.
On July 27, the Angels had a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Ohtani pitched a complete game, one-hit, shutout, the first of his career. Then, in the second game, he hit two home runs in his first two at-bats, before being removed with cramping.
That performance alone deserves the Player of the Month Award, but he had tons of other incredible performances that led to him being rewarded.
Congrats to Ohtani on yet another major award. As long as he stays healthy, there's no doubt he'll finish this season with another MVP Award on his mantle, too.
