Angels News: Video Shows Exact Moment Shohei Ohtani Suffered Oblique Injury
The UCL tear that Angels two-way superstar suffered recently has taken the entire game of baseball by storm. Not only is the face of the league injured, but the injury is also going to affect how things go this winter when he becomes a free agent.
Ohtani has been shut down as a pitcher for this season, and there is a good chance that we won’t see him back on the mound until 2025. He is likely heading for Tommy John Surgery once again, although nothing has been announced officially just yet.
A new video has dropped that shows exactly when Ohtani suffered the oblique injury that ended up leading to everything. You can see it below.
It’s unfortunate that Ohtani suffered this again as he was on pace to have one of the most historic seasons in history. He still will likely be the American League MVP, but we will never know just how great this year could have been.
The hope is that Ohtani can return to his two-way skillset at some point down the line. Any team that signs him this offseason will likely try to structure the massive contract around incentives and other means to work around the injury.
However, the marketability that he brings will easily pay back for the contract. There will be no shortage of suitors for his services this winter, even with the injury in place.
He was scheduled to become the first-ever $500 million man in baseball history, and it could still happen. But the injury does put some limits on how much teams may offer him.
This certainly will be something to watch going forward into the winter. His impending free agency has dominated the baseball world for a long time, and now it has just gotten that much more intriguing.
