Angels Rumors: Halos Linked to Cy Young Winning Free Agent Pitcher
The Los Angeles Angels have had a somewhat quiet offseason thus far, but they are still determined to continue adding. They have brought in some help within the bullpen but are looking into upgrading the starting rotation.
The Halos have a solid roster of starters, but they feel they can improve themselves with the quality of arms. The team has been linked with many of the top names on the open market, with the biggest being reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.
Snell remains a free agent after his dominant 2023 season. He posted an ERA of 2.25 over 32 starts but has yet to receive a contract that he deems worthy of his performance.
The veteran left-hander has continued to be connected with the Halos, with MLB.com's Mark Feinsand listing the team as a potential fit.
"SP Blake Snell Age: 31
Snell’s market hasn’t been as robust as you would expect for a two-time Cy Young Award winner, but the left-hander remains the best available option for clubs seeking a lift at the top of the rotation. Given that Yoshinobu Yamamoto signed a $325 million deal despite never throwing a pitch in the Majors, it’s understandable why Snell is holding out for a deal of his liking. Potential fits: Angels, Giants"
Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com
Snell would provide the Angels with a front-of-the-line starter if the two sides could come together on a deal. The Halos are missing a "go-to" type of pitcher, but owner Arte Moreno has been hesitant to push a deal forward.
Landing Snell would be seen as a power move for this franchise, with the team building around him for the next few seasons. He is the best arm left on the open market, and the Halos would be wise to push a deal over the finish line.
