As the Los Angeles Angels search for their new manager, there has been a lot of talk surrounding former New York Mets skipper Buck Showalter. He has been linked to the Halos since being fired, and there are tons of connections in place.

However, MLB insider Jim Bowden doesn’t see the Angels going down the path of hiring Buck Showalter despite all the buzz around the potential move.

“I don’t think Arte Moreno’s gonna go down that path, [of hiring Buck], from what I understand. And I think that hiring a long-term manager makes a lot of sense."

Per Jim Bowden

Showalter makes sense for the Halos if they are indeed intent on fielding a competitive team next season. But if they want to head into a rebuild, which is unlikely, a manager like Showalter doesn’t make a ton of sense.

The Angels have some good, young talent on the roster to work with, but they could very well see two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani walk out the door this winter. If he does, the team may want to head into a rebuild.

This report from Bowden goes against a report from Jon Heyman of The New York Post that says Showalter is a real option for this team.

“The Angels are believed to seek a veteran manager to lead their young team. So, ex-Mets manager Buck Showalter makes sense. Owner Arte Moreno is said to like Showalter”

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

We officially have a source-off, and the offseason hasn’t even really gotten into the swing of things. Either way, the Angels need to get this hire correct. They will be going on their fifth manager since 2018, and that shows poor turnover in the position for this club.

Something needs to change within this organization, so the Angels have some tough choices to make. This will be an interesting offseason for the team, and one that could dictate the future of the organization.
