In this story:

As the 2023 MLB season goes along, nobody within the Los Angeles Angels organization can escape the impending free agency of two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. It's everywhere they go and in every question they get asked for the most part.

The noise has gotten even louder as the team has found itself in the midst of a real struggling time. They have seen themselves drop down in the standings and their playoff chances look bleak at this moment.

During the Angels loss to the Houston Astros on Sunday Night Baseball this past weekend, manager Phil Nevin was asked about Ohtani and he seemed to want to avoid the question entirely.

Really with him it hasn’t come up. It’s all business. We’re focused on winning baseball games right now and getting back to where we were a couple weeks ago and hopefully those rumors go away again.”

Per ESPN

You can listen to the clip below:

Nevin knows that the status of Ohtani with the Angels is at the center of everything they do. But he is focused on trying to get this team back into contention.

Just as easily as they climbed the standings earlier in the year, they fell way down. It's been a rough few weeks for the Angels organization and now everyone is talking about whether or not the team will indeed trade their superstar at the trade deadline.

Many believe that he won't stay with the Angels once he becomes a free agent so they are better off trading him now to get something in return. To date, the Angels haven't signaled that they want to do that but anything is possible over the next few weeks.

This will be a topic that will be heavily talked about for the next few weeks and one to keep an eye on.
