Angels View 2023 Reliever as Starting Pitcher, Potentially as Soon as Next Season
The Los Angeles Angels biggest priority this offseason is improving their starting pitching. They have a few quality arms already on the roster, but the front office knows that they aren't going anywhere without upgrading the rotation.
They have been active in looking to upgrade their staff, and the hope is that they can bring in multiple arms. But the Halos also have one pitcher on the roster already who can provide some help.
Right-hander Sam Bachman could be used in the rotation this coming season. He was out of the bullpen last year, but the Angels view him as a long-term starter.
Angels general manager Perry Minasian gave some thoughts on Bachman, and his future with the team.
"Minasian also said that the Angels still view Bachman’s long-term future as a starter, even though he was used out of the bullpen in the majors last season."

Bachman had surgery earlier in the offseason to help clean up his shoulder, but he should be ready for the start of the year. He worked 17 innings last season for the Angels, posting an ERA of 3.11 and a WHIP of 1.65.
Bachman also struck out 14 batters and recorded one save against the Kansas City Royals before getting hurt. The front office remains very high on him moving forward, and they are excited to see what he can do this coming year.
“We’ll come into spring training and see where it goes, but we believe he can start,” Minasian said.

The Angels could use Bachman to field a six-man rotation, giving them more flexibility next season. He is ready to make an impact for this team, and show that he can be a major contributor.
