Blake Snell Rumors: Giants Beat Writer Predicts Angels Sign Cy Young WInner
The Los Angeles Angels have been searching all offseason for that big signing to counteract losing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. One name that has been connected to the Halos all winter has been starting pitcher Blake Snell.
Snell remains a free agent, despite being one of the best free agents available on the open market entering the offseason. No teams have been willing to meet his high asking price of yet, but it all seems to be coming to a conclusion.
Over the weekend, Snell posted a cryptic social media message that followed more speculation about him signing soon. Now, San Francisco Giants beat writer Alex Pavlovic is predicting that Snell will indeed land with the Halos.
“My somewhat educated guess," Pavlovic said, "is he’ll be a Los Angeles Angel.”
Landing Snell would bring some legitimacy to the Halos rotation, giving them a true ace-level starter. He would be the face of the rotation for years, making this a solid addition for the Angels if they can land him.
Owner Arte Moreno has reportedly been hesitant to put all the chips in on a large free-agent deal for a pitcher, but Snell may be worth the risk. He is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and reportedly is open to a shorter-term deal with opt-outs.
Assuming the two sides can agree, Snell would be the perfect pitcher to help some of the younger arms on the team learn from. The Angels front office has wanted to be competitive going forward, so bringing in Snell would be the strongest signal of making that a reality.
