Former Angels manager Brad Ausmus is joining the New York Yankees as their new bench coach for the upcoming season. MLB insider Joel Sherman of The New York Post broke the news about Ausmus.

He takes over the role that Carlos Mendoza left open after he agreed to become the New York Mets new manager. Ausmus spent the 2022 season in a bench role with the Oakland Athletics but took the 2023 season off to try and join a team in a leadership position.

The former Angels skipper had wanted to get back into a managerial role this offseason, but he will settle with a bench spot. He will likely try again to take over a team next year if he does well with the Yankees.

Ausmus was dismissed from the Angels after just one season into his three-year deal. He was one of the hottest managers on the market when the Halos brought him in, and many around the game loved the hire.

But the Angels underperformed during his one season with the team, and owner Arte Moreno decided enough was enough. He was replaced by former Angels manager Joe Maddon, who was too good to pass on.

Ausmus never had a chance to show what he could do with the Angels, but he did spend some time with the Detroit Tigers before coming to Anaheim. He led them to the postseason once in the four years he was there.

He is known for his high baseball IQ and his ability to relate to players, which made him a fun manager in the clubhouse. We wish Ausmus luck in New York this season!
