This late into the offseason, the Angels still need to address the starting rotation. Blake Snell's name has popped up a few times in connection with the Halos as a potential option.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com still believes that the Angels could be a fit for the two-time Cy Young Award winner.
" SP
Blake Snell
,
Age: 31
Snell’s market
hasn’t been as robust as you would expect for a two-time
Cy Young Award winner
, but the left-hander remains the best available option for clubs seeking a lift at the top of the rotation. Given that
Yoshinobu Yamamoto signed a $325 million deal
despite never throwing a pitch in the Majors, it’s understandable why Snell is holding out for a deal of his liking.
Potential fits:
Angels, Giants"
Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com
Snall reportedly rejected his only reported formal offer so far. He turned down a six-year $150 million offer from the New York Yankees. Reports indicate that he is seeking a 9-year $270 million contract from a team.
Even after winning his second Cy Young, teams have hesitated to meet Snell's asking price. For someone wanting $30 million per year, Snell rarely goes deep into games.
Only twice has Snell pitched 180 innings - coincidentally, the two years he won the Cy Young Award. In contrast, Gerrit Cole, whom the Yankees signed to a nine-year $324 million contract, has met that mark seven times in his career.
Talent-wise, the Halos could definitely use Snell's services. They desperately need an ace for their rotation and should not rely on an overhauled bullpen to eat innings.
