Astros Fans Vote Altuve's Historic Moment as Photo of the Year

It comes as no surprise that one of the franchise's most popular players had his historic moment voted as the best of the year.

There were plenty of special moments that happened during the Houston Astros' 2023 season. Although it didn't culminate in their ultimate goal of repeating as World Series champions, they still were able to win their division once again and had some historic things happen on the field.

The Astros' social media staff put together a bracket style format that had fans vote on what they thought were the best moments captured via photo.

Voting took place on their X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts with 32 pictures being selected to the bracket and voting beginning on Dec. 11.

Houston fans voted Jose Altuve's 2,000th career hit as the best moment of the 2023 season, beating out Yordan Alvarez's bat flip.

Altuve's historic moment took place on Aug. 19, 2023 against the Seattle Mariners. He became the third player in Astros history to reach that feat, joining Hall of Famers Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell.

Only four other active players are in the 2,000 hit club following the retirements of Miguel Cabrera and Nelson Cruz this offseason. It's now Altuve, Joey Votto, Freddie Freeman, Andrew McCutchen and Elvis Andrus who have hit that milestone.

"That's quite an accomplishment. A couple other Hall of Famers here got 2,000 hits. ... Hopefully he can stay healthy and be around for the next 1,000," his former manager, Dusty Baker, said after it happened.

With speculation that Houston would like to keep their star slugger around for the entirety of his career, all of Altuve's statistics would come in an Astros jersey, just like Biggio and Bagwell's.
