Michael Brantley was sent back to Houston before the Astros' Thursday contest with the Los Angeles Angels, per Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet. The left fielder took swings Tuesday, but "it didn't feel right."

Placed on the 10-day injured list June 28, Brantley was eligible for reinstatement over a week ago. The 35-year-old last played June 26 against the New York Yankees when he exited with right-shoulder discomfort.

With left field open, sophomore Chas McCormick has picked up 32 at-bats with a .269/.406/.500 in the month of July. The 27-year-old struck two homers in the first two weeks with six walks to eight strikeouts.
