Report: Altuve Exits Thursday With Contusion, Won't Play Friday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers caught José Altuve's left knee with a first-pitch slider Thursday. After running the bases and scoring on a Kyle Tucker single, Altuve was replaced by Mauricio Dubón in the bottom of the first inning.

Altuve is listed day-to-day and will not start Friday which was already a scheduled off day, per Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet SW. The Houston Astros return to play at 7:10 p.m. Friday in Minute Maid Park — a quick turnaround from a night game on the West Coast. All of the healthy regulars started Thursday while more off days with come against the Oakland A's before the All-Star Break.

Altuve has amounted 3.0 bWAR over 72 games this season. The starting American League second baseman in the 2022 All-Star game is hitting .277 with a .900 OPS — his highest since 2019.
