Forrest Whitley departed his second Triple-A start of the 2022 season Sunday with right-shoulder inflammation after 1.2 innings, the Houston Astros announced. Whitley — who threw only 2.2 in his first Triple-A start last Monday — was pulled after 20 pitches, 16 of them strikes.

Whitley surrendered only one hit while recording one strikeout Sunday, seeing his average four-seam fastball velocity at 93.9 mph. The righty generated three whiffs with his fastball and one with his slider on the 13 swings he saw.

The 24-year-old pitched at Triple-A for the first time since 2019 last week upon returning from Tommy John surgery. Pitching a combined 4.1 innings in two July starts, Whitley has allowed six earned runs on six hits, with two walks to five strikeouts.
