Ranking the Braves "All-Star Game Red Carpet" fits
On the field, Braves players dress in the same uniform, for the most part, but off the field, you have a chance to show some personality in how you dress.
The Braves have a ridiculous EIGHT representatives in tonight's All Star Game, and after we had some fun ranking the "flying to the All Star Game" fits, let's rank the ACTUAL fits that the guys sported tonight on the red carpet.
#1: Ronald Acuña Jr
LOOK AT IT
Ronald Acuña Jr's sporting a custom-made salmon-colored suit from noted athlete clothier Tom Marchitelli, and it WORKS. It just pushes over the line from normal wear into high fashion, but it absolutely works for the most electrifying player in Major League Baseball.
Bonus points for the new "too small" chain. That'll be a ballpark giveaway pretty soon, I'm willing to bet.
Grade: 11/10, absolutely no notes. KING
#2: Spencer Strider
In a normal year, this is it - the Navigator sunglasses, the hunter green suit with the custom Jordan Ones, one more button unbuttoned than you were expecting.
This would have won, if not for the existence of Ronald Acuña Jr.
GRADE: 10/10, still no notes.
#3 (T): Matt Olson
LET'S GO MATT. For a guy that we complained was "too plain" on Sunday, this is quite the climb up the rankings. Mr. Olson's coming at you in a textured green, single-darted suit with a black shirt and black bit loafers (with no socks, as is the proper way to wear them). The Navigator sunglasses provide this look with just the last little bit of smoothness it needed to push it over the top.
Matt Olson: hitting homeruns, and this look, out of the park.
GRADE: 9/10
#3 (T): Ozzie Albies
OZZIE! Our second baseman is rocking the cream suit with a dark brown turtleneck and what appear to be animal leather bit loafers (we're gonna go with gator on this one), worn properly without socks like civilized folks do. Add in the extra ring - not the wedding ring, but the black obsidian on the middle finger - and Ozzie's dressed to impress.
GRADE: 9/10, no notes
#5: Austin Riley
Okay big fella. Austin's rocking the hunter green Prince of Wales check suit with a crisp white shirt to match his crisp white kicks. The rest of the touches are simple, but when you're rocking that sort of pattern, everything should be simple.
GRADE: 8/10 - It's the cuff of the pants - Gotta go for either no break or the faintest of breaks with this cut of suit.
#6: Orlando Arcia
Okay, here's where our rule of not evaluating/grading family members hurts someone. Orlando's rocking a more casual outfit - jeans and a matching jacket - that have a faint repeating pattern that's mesmerizing. It's accessorized by a red crewneck shirt, dark sneakers, and a "11" diamond-encrusted chain.
But let's be real here: The star of the show are the twins. They're adorable, and Orlando's outfit is perfectly fine but would be a lot higher if we could include them in the score.
GRADE: 7/10
BONUS: Bloop understood the assignment
#7: Bryce Elder
WHEW LOOK AT THAT BLUE. Bryce Elder's exploded onto the scene in MLB this year, and this suit does too, in a good way. The royal blue suit gets points for not only how it catches the eye, but also the break on the pants - none. They stop right above the crisp white shoes, flashing a hint of ankle (and sock, unfortunately)
GRADE: 6/10. Peak lapels was the wrong choice on this - the suit's loud enough already
#8: Sean Murphy
Look, it's not a bad outfit. It's just a bit...off. Fit isn't quite right - it's a little small in the waist, causing the pulling when buttoned, yet it's a bit too loose and long in the leg. It's stacking on top of the shoes after billowing out just past the knee. It's not bad, but when the rest of the field has brought THIS kind of game to the red carpet, it's not enough to break the podium.
GRADE: 5/10
BONUS fit: Sean Murphy had custom Seattle-themed catcher's gear for his start in the game, and it was absolutely FIRE.
Honestly, these are the most important fits of the night:
