Braves Briefing: Spencer Strider's historic career continues

Spencer Strider's strikeout numbers continue to build in his young career.

Spencer Strider added 10 strikeouts to his 2023 resume despite the Atlanta Braves losing the second and final game in their series against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday night.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, with the 10 strikeouts from last night, Strider increased his season total to 199. That's the 3rd-most by a player under the age of 25 before August since the mound was moved to its current distance in 1893. He trails only Vida Blue (219 in 1971) & Walter Johnson (200 in 1912).

In our takeaways from last night's action, the slump after the All-Star Break was brought up.

Sure Atlanta won a series against the Brewers last week, but the Braves have gone 4-7 since the All-Star Break. The great news is that Atlanta built such a strong lead in the first half of the season is that a slump like this won't hurt their season as much as it could other teams throughout the National League but things need to get cleaned up if they want to play at the level they have been playing for most of the summer.

Check out all of our takeaways here.
