WATCH: Sean Murphy hits RBI single in first at-bat against former team

Sean Murphy and the Atlanta Braves wasted no time jumping on the Oakland A's.

In a game where the focus was on pitcher Michael Soroka's return, another big storyline that was overlooked was Sean Murphy's return to Oakland.

Murphy made solid contact in his first at-bat in his old city to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead.

Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves vs Oakland Athletics on Monday, May 29th

Starting for the Braves is Michael Soroka. It's his first major league appearance since 2020, as he's spent the last three season recovering from two Achilles tears. In AAA Gwinnett this season, he's 1-2 with a 4.33 ERA in eight starts, with thirty-five strikeouts to eleven walks in 35.1 innings.

Opposing Atlanta is RHP Paul Blackburn. The righthander is also make his season debut, opening the season on the injured list with a right middle finger issue he's been dealing with since last August. He went 0-0 with a 7.50 ERA in his six rehab starts, divided between Class-A Stockton and AAA Las Vegas. He's faced the Braves once in his career, in July of 2017, allowing only three hits and one unearned run in six innings.
