WATCH: Austin Riley crushes two-run homer vs the Marlins
The Braves have now hit four home runs in game one against the Marlins.
Eddie Rosario just set Atlanta's franchise record for home runs in the month of June (57). Austin Riley just added two more to make it 59.
Atlanta has now had 59 home runs and a team batting average of .303 in June. Today is the final game of the month. If the Braves come out of this game with a .300 or better batting average, they will become the only team in MLB history to win 20 games at least 55 homers, and kept a .300+ batting average in a month.
Atlanta is currently up 14-3 on the Marlins.
You can watch Riley's second home run below.
Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins on Friday, June 30th
As we mentioned earlier today, Michael Soroka was called up to start today for Atlanta. He was called up to the major league roster on May 29th for a road start against Oakland, going six innings with five hits and four runs. Soroka made one more big-league start, on June 4th against the Diamondbacks, before being sent back down to AAA Gwinnett for more polish on his secondary offerings. The two starts in MLB did Soroka well, with him excelling once he got back to AAA Gwinnett. In his last three starts, he went 2-0 with only three earned runs allowed in nineteen innings, striking out eighteen and allowing only seven hits - opposing batters were hitting only .109 against Soroka in that three-game stretch.
Opposing Atlanta is RHP Bryan Hoeing. 1-1 with a 2.39 ERA on the season in his eighteen appearances (four starts), he's thrown thirty-five innings for this Miami team in 2023. First called up last year, he's been in and out of the rotation this season and is making his third consecutive start of the season. Most Atlanta players faced him once or twice earlier this season, as he started against the Braves on April 25th and lasted only 3.2 innings with six hits and four runs. No Braves have taken Hoeing deep, however.
