Braves Briefing: Atlanta is reportedly a 'top suitor' for Sonny Gray

The Atlanta Braves could end up with Sonny Gray this offseason.

The interest between Sonny Gray and the Atlanta Braves appears to be mutual.

According to a report from Jon Morosi, the Braves spoke to Gray before missing out on Aaron Nola. Morosi said the following in a post on X:

"The Braves are one of the top suitors for free agent Sonny Gray, sources say. Atlanta had spoken with Aaron Nola’s camp before Nola returned to the Phillies."

Gray was ranked as the 11th-best free agent in our Braves Today Free Agent rankings. Here was his bio:

The 33 year-old has MLB's lowest FIP at 2.83, as well as the lowest homer rate among qualified pitchers with 0.4 HR/9. Named an All-Star for only the third time in his career, Gray's undoubtedly looking for a multi-year deal that can carry him into the tail end of his career.

How long until pitchers and catchers report?

82 days. Atlanta's expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
