BREAKING: Braves, Orlando Arcia agree to contract extension

The veteran shortstop will stay in Atlanta for at least three more seasons on a relatively affordable deal

Just hours before first pitch, multiple sources confirm that the Atlanta Braves have reached an agreement on a three-year, $7.3M contract extension that will keep Arcia in Atlanta through his age 31 season.

An additional club option can lengthen the deal through 2026, with a $1M buyout.

Arcia, 28, has been in Atlanta for two seasons, joining the team in April of 2021 from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for pitchers Patrick Weigel and Chad Sobotka. In his time in Atlanta, he's appeared in 99 games with a slash line of .237/.308/.398 with 11 HRs and 43 RBIs, while logging playing time at second base (51), left field (20), shortstop (4), third base (4), and even pitching an inning in 2022.

The veteran was named the Opening Day starter at shortstop last week, winning the job over youngsters Braden Shewmake and Vaughn Grissom. He was Milwaukee's starting shortstop in 2017-2019 prior to the organization's acquisition of Willy Adames from Tampa Bay.
