BREAKING: Travis d'Arnaud leaves game after two collisions at home plate; will go to IL

Sean Murphy replaced Travis d'Arnaud in the top of the 6th.

MLB has done a lot to try and legislate away the home plate collisions that used to be prevalent in baseball.

But injuries still happen, and Travis d'Arnaud had to leave tonight's game after two collisions with Padres at home plate.

First, Jake Cronenworth slides in feet-first to try and get in ahead of a tag - with d'Arnaud on one knee to handle a tricky hop, Cronenworth's leg making contact with him is enough to knock him off balance and onto his back.

Wasn't that big of a deal, and just an unfortunate play.

But then came Rougned Odor two plays later - he chose not to even attempt a slide, and collided full-force with Travis d'Arnaud.

Here's the video:

The ball got past d'Arnaud and rolled to the backstop, allowing Ha-Seong Kim to come around and score as well. But after conferring, the umpires decided that Odor never touched home plate and, since Kim came around to score, technically Kim passed Odor on the basepaths and Odor was out.

The call took a run off the board for San Diego, which they did not protest or appeal.

d'Arnaud came up to the plate in the next inning, lining out to left field, but was replaced to open the 6th by Sean Murphy. We'll have more as the Braves announce information.

UPDATE: Travis d'Arnaud is likely to miss some time. He's had multiple concussions in his career and the Braves will undoubtedly be cautious with him.
