Brian Snitker finishes in 3rd place in NL Manager of the Year voting

Snitker was behind winner Skip Schumaker of the Miami Marlins and Craig Counsell, formerly of the Brewers, despite tying for most 1st-place votes

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker was announced as the 2nd runner-up for the National League Manager of the Year award, given out by the BBWAA on Tuesday night. 

Snitker, 68, has been nominated six straight seasons for the award, winning in 2018. 

Snitker and Schumaker both received eight first-place votes in the balloting.

Torey Lovullo, who guided his six-seed Arizona Diamondbacks to the World Series, came in 4th place. (Note: Votes were cast prior to the postseason). 

Snitker's issue this season came in being on ballots - He received eight first place votes, but was only on four additional ballots out of the thirty total cast.

Schumaker's the third Marlins manager to win the award, joining Jack McKeon (in 2003) and Don Mattingly (in 2020). It's the 9th time overall that a first-year manager has won the award, with seven of those coming in the National League. 

The AL Manager of the Year winner was Brandon Hyde of the Baltimore Orioles, with 27 of 30 first-place votes. 

Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr is one of three finalists for NL Most Valuable Player, to be given out on Thursday, November 16th at 6 PM ET.
