How to Watch the Atlanta Braves on TV in 2023
How can I watch the Braves on tv?
It is a question routinely asked by Braves fans on Twitter and Facebook. The rising cost of sports programming has caused many streaming providers to drop Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) from their list of channels. The lack of RSNs on many popular streaming platforms, combined with the strict blackout rules of Major League Baseball, leaves many fans with few options to watch Braves baseball.
The MLB blackout rules are well documented and a source of ongoing frustration for baseball fans. MLB is aware of the problem and working on a solution, but many fans cannot watch the games with their current subscriptions. Most of the broadcast rights are not owned by MLB or the individual teams, but instead by the RSNs that pay millions of dollars to own those rights. The AJC reported that the Braves contract with Bally Sports was over $100 million for the 2023 season. To further complicate the situation for the Braves, Diamond Sports Group, which owns Bally Sports, recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
MLB is ready to take over the broadcasts if Diamond Sports Group defaults on team payments, and Commissioner Manfred has assured fans that they will have a way to watch the games. MLB is also preparing for new ways of delivering broadcasts to fans in the future. MLB recently announced hiring three former tv network executives, Doug Johnson, Greg Pennell, and Kendall Burgess, to work with teams on developing the best broadcast plan moving forward. In a recent MLB press release, Noah Garden, MLB Chief Revenue Officer, said this about the hires: “These new hires are an important step in our preparation to address the changing landscape of MLB game distribution in light of the increasing challenges and pressure facing regional sports networks. The decades of experience and expertise in game production and operations that Doug, Greg, and Kendall bring to Major League Baseball reinforces our commitment to deliver the highest quality game telecasts to our fans.”
Hopefully, a day is coming when MLB.tv will allow fans to easily watch games of their favorite teams with no blackout restrictions. But until that day comes, we’ll return to the question at hand: how can I watch the Braves on tv for the upcoming 2023 season?
The following providers carry Bally Sports, which will be the primary home of Braves baseball for the 2023 season:
Streaming: Fubo, DirecTV.
Satellite: DirecTV
Cable: Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T U-verse, Cox, Suddenlink, Sparklight, Optimum, Mediacom, Wow!
If you live outside the Braves home market, you can use a subscription to MLB.tv to watch the Braves.
