Atlanta hopes to avenge a rare Oakland victory behind the arm of Bryce Elder

Boy, that was unexpected. 

The Oakland A's, statistically one of the worst teams in baseball history, defeated Atlanta last night, 7-2 in the much anticipated return of Michael Soroka. 

Atlanta's got another chance to get it done tonight, sending revelation Bryce Elder to the mound against Oakland's JP Sears.

Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves vs Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, May 30th

The Braves are sending Bryce Elder to the mound tonight in Oakland. The righty is 3-0 with a NL-leading 2.01 ERA in his ten starts, striking out fifty-one batters in his fifty-eight and a third innings on the season. He's never faced Oakland, but one of their hitters has seen him before: OF JJ Bleday, formerly with the Miami Marlins, is 1-6 against him. 

Opposing Atlanta is JP Sears. The lefthander is 0-3 on the season with a 4.70 ERA in his ten starts, striking out fifty-two in his fifty-three and two-thirds innings of work. Formerly of the Yankees, Sears's time in the AL means he's never faced Atlanta, but a few Braves hitters have faced him before - Charlie Culberson is 0-2 against him, and Sean Murphy has not only faced him tice (going 0-2), but has caught him in the past. Hopefully that familiarity with him helps Atlanta get on the board early and often tonight.
