Lineup, how to watch Atlanta's Saturday afternoon matchup with the Washington Nationals

Atlanta sends lefty Jared Shuster to the mound against lefty Mackenzie Gore

Winners of six straight games, the Atlanta Braves look to extend the streak by taking the series against the Washington Nationals this afternoon in Truist Park. Atlanta's done it in dramatic fashion during the past week, with all six of the victories seeing the Braves come back from deficits, sometimes in late and/or dramatic fashion.

It's a battle of young lefties that have seemingly started to put it together recently, with Jared Shuster of the Braves facing Mackenzie Gore of the Nationals. Just a season removed from a rough 4.50 ERA for San Diego that saw Washington leave him in AAA after coming back from injury, Gore is 3-4 with a 3.66 ERA and 80 strikeouts, more than two strikeouts per nine innings higher than last year's mark, with a lowered walk rate. Shuster, meanwhile, is 2-1 in his last three starts, with a 3.18 ERA and only one home run as he's learned to better attack the zone to limit his walks.

Lineup for the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, June 10th

Here's how the Braves will line up for this afternoon's contest:

It's mostly usual suspects for Atlanta, with Travis d'Arnaud catching and batting 5th, bumping Ozzie up to cleanup, while Kevin Pillar gets the start in left field in place of Eddie Rosario (since the Braves are facing a left-handed starter) and batting 8th.

Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals on Saturday, June 10th

Atlanta's sending young lefty Jared Shuster to the mound. He's 2-2 on the season, with a 4.99 ERA in his six starts across thirty and two-thirds innings. He faced Washington in the season opening series, going four and two-thirds innings (and taking the loss) with six hits and four runs allowed, walking five and striking out only one in a game the Nationals won, 4-1. He came back up for Atlanta's May 16th matchup at Texas, after the Braves lost Max Fried and Kyle Wright to injuries, and is 2-1 since the call-up with a much-lower walk rate and longer, more efficient outings.

Countering Atlanta is young lefty Mackenzie Gore. Acquired by Washington as part of the massive Juan Soto trade, he's 3-4 with a 3.66 ERA this season in his twelve starts, striking out more than eleven batters per nine innings. He's faced Atlanta twice in his career - early in 2022, as a member of the San Diego Padres, he went 5.1 innings with three hits and two runs (getting tagged for an Ozzie Albies homerun), striking out three and walking two in a late 5-2 Atlanta victory. This season, he started the Opening Weekend series finale victory against the Braves, going 5.1 innings with three hits and one run, walking four and striking out six as the Nationals won 4-1.
