Atlanta Braves Lineup for Saturday, May 20th

Atlanta's going with the usual suspects in the lineup on City Connect Saturday. Eddie Rosario bats 5th, playing left field, while Marcell Ozuna is the DH, batting 7th. The Braves are sticking with Orlando Arcia at #8 and Michael Harris II as a "second leadoff hitter", batting 9th.

Atlanta Braves vs Seattle Mariners Pitching Matchup

As we mentioned at the top, the Atlanta Braves are using veteran Jesse Chavez as today's opener. "Uncle Jesse" is has a 2.50 ERA in his twenty-one appearances on the season, with no decisions but one save. He's pitched eighteen innings with twenty-two strikeouts and five walks. He hasn't served as a opener yet this season, but is no stranger to the role, having amassed five starts across the 125 games he's appeared in over his Braves tenure and 84 total starts in his career, mostly in Oakland (47 combined in 2014 & 2015) and with the Angels (21 in 2017). Most of the current Mariners players (34 at-bats) have faced Chavez before, but without much success: Only Ty France (2-4 with a HR & 3 RBIs), Sam Haggerty (2-3 with a RBI) and Julio Rodriguez (1-2 with a HR and 3 RBIs) having hits off of him.

Countering Chavez is Seattle youngster Logan Gilbert. The 26 year-old is 1-2 on the 2023 season, with a 3.91 ERA in his eight starts on the year and 54 strikeouts to nine walks in his 46 innings pitched. He's never faced Atlanta, but multiple Braves have at-bats against him, with Eddie Rosario (2-5), Matt Olson (2-10 with an RBI) and Sean Murphy (1-10) all having success against him. The newly recalled Charlie Culberson is perhaps the most successful off of Gilbert, going 1-2 with a double and a RBI.
