Lineup, how to watch the Atlanta Braves open their home series against Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees

Atlanta's sending lefty Max Fried to the mound against Yankees righty Clarke Schmidt, with Ozzie Albies out of the lineup and Money Mike batting 2nd in his place

For the first time in two years, the Atlanta Braves are going to square off against the New York Yankees.

The 27-time World Champions, New York's not having the season they wanted to have, but they're still formidable: They may be in last place in the AL East at 60-58, but that'd be only one game back in the AL Central. The offense can mash, and the bullpen's quite formidable. The Braves are lucky to avoid ace Gerrit Cole, so let's see if they can cash in that good fortune with a 2nd straight series win.

Lineup for the Atlanta Braves on Monday, August 14th

Here's how the Braves will line up for the contest:

A day after leaving the game with cramping in his hamstring, Ozzie Albies will miss today's game, replaced by Nicky Lopez, who bats 9th. The absence of Ozzie means that Michael Harris II moves up into the #2 spot.
Outside of that, the Braves are sticking with the usual suspects in this one, with catcher Travis d'Arnaud rotating in behind the plate, batting 5th behind MLB's homerun and RBI leader, Matt Olson, while the incredibly hot Marcell Ozuna bats sixth.

Pitching Matchup for the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees on Monday, August 14th

Monday's starter is RHP Clarke Schmidt. 8-6 with a 4.23 ERA in his 24 appearances this season (23 starts), Schmidt has been the only other pitcher other than Cole to start more than 20 games this season. The 2017 1st rounder out of South Carolina has never faced the Braves, and only two members of the roster (backup infielder Nicky Lopez and platoon outfielder Kevin Pillar) have seen him before - they're a combined 0-3 against Schmidt in their careers.

Max Fried is 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA in his seven starts on the season, striking out 37 in 36 innings of work. He's now made two starts after being activated from the 60-day IL, and they're a contrast in extremes: The first was six scoreless innings against the Pirates with three hits and eight strikeouts (no walks). The second was four inning with four runs and six hits against the Mets, striking out only four. But Fried's historically been successful against the Yankees, with his only other start (back in 2020) being six innings of four hit, one run baseball with five strikeouts in a 2-1 Braves win. Only three Yankees have hits off of him in the past, with Giancarlo Stanton (3-5, HR, 2 RBIs) being the most successful.
