Braves activate Collin McHugh, put Eli White on paternity list
The Atlanta Braves, as we discussed yesterday, have officially activated reliever Collin McHugh from the IL, the team announced this morning:
McHugh, 35, is in the 2nd year of a two-year deal to be a key setup man in the Braves bullpen. He appeared in three games this season before needing an IL stint due to shoulder inflammation. He just finished two rehab appearances in Rome (High-A) over the weekend and looked good, throwing 4.2 innings with no runs allowed. McHugh will be much-needed reinforcements for a bullpen that's leaned on several key guys, especially Jesse Chavez and AJ Minter, early as they wait for the return of closer Raisel Iglesias.
To make room on the roster, reliever Danny Young was optioned down to AAA Gwinnett. Young didn't get much run out of the pen but did his job when called on, appearing four times, pitching 3.2 innings, and giving up only one run.
The Braves also put backup outfielder Eli White on the paternity list, calling up Nick Solak to take his place. We were excited about his call-up, as he had a torrid spring, but due to the emergence of Sam Hilliard he was limited to rotational duty only. He's gotten only 14 at-bats on the season, collecting one hit and two walks along with seven strikeouts. He'll be temporarily replaced by Nick Solak, who was claimed off of waivers last week by Atlanta and optioned to AAA Gwinnett.
