Cardinals' John Mozeliak Expected To Leave Front Office In Near Future
The St. Louis Cardinals have been busy retooling their roster this offseason to aid the club's efforts of bouncing back in 2024.
Not only have the Cardinals replenished the rotation as well as adding relievers, but the organization also hired former Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom in an advisory role.
St. Louis' president of baseball operations John Mozeliak's latest statement indicates that more changes are coming to the Cardinals' front office.
"John Mozeliak just told us he has two years left on his contract and he believes that will be it for him in this particular role," The Athletic's Jim Bowden reported Sunday.
Mozeliak has held his current role with the Cardinals since 2017 and served as the team's senior vice president and general manager for almost 10 seasons before taking on his current position.
The 54-year-old has helped lead the Cardinals to the postseason 10 times -- including a franchise record of five straight seasons from 2011-2015, winning the World Series to begin that run.
The disappointing 71-91 record for the Cardinals last season was the worst performance recorded under Mozeliak's leadership. "Mo" has addressed the issues with pitching and is hoping for a better outcome next season.
The recent hiring of Bloom might indicate a shift in leadership for the Cardinals down the road. Perhaps St. Louis was aware of Mozeliak's plans to step down and brought in Bloom to be his successor.
Will Bloom be the next president of baseball operations for the Cardinals?
