Cardinals Likely Done Making Additions This Offseason Unless This Happens
The St. Louis Cardinals may be all done adding this offseason.
St. Louis entered the offseason with plenty of holes to plug on the roster and has been extremely busy looking to do just that. The Cardinals quickly landed Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson to improve the starting rotation.
The other massive hole on the Cardinals' roster was in the bullpen and St. Louis has added a handful of hurlers already. St. Louis has been linked to some other relievers, but the club may be done adding.
While there have been plenty of rumors swirling involving the Cardinals, St. Louis likely won't make another addition unless it is through a trade where they send out equal salary, according to MLB.com's John Denton.
"Barring a trade where the Cards send out roughly the same amount of money that they are taking back, the club’s roster is close to being set for when pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training on Feb. 12," Denton said. "Yes, the Cardinals acted aggressively early in free agency by signing proven veteran pitchers Sonny Gray, Kyle Gibson, and Lance Lynn, and they later bolstered the bullpen with the additions of Andrew Kittredge, Ryan Fernandez, Riley O’Brien, and Nick Robertson.
"Still, with potential aces such as Blake Snell and old friend Jordan Montgomery on the free-agent market, Cardinals fans have been hopeful that one more move might be in the works."
There is always a possibility that the Cardinals could find a trade that fits this description, but it also is an indication that St. Louis isn't looking to increase its payroll anymore this offseason.
